The Beverage Container Refund Scheme (BCRS) aims to promote recycling and reduce single-use waste. Whenever you purchase a single-use beverage container such as a plastic water bottle or a soft-drink can, you will be charged an additional deposit of €0.10 on top of the product cost. However, you can easily get this deposit refunded in full when you return the empty container to any Welbee's store during your next visit.

Here's a simple recap of the steps to follow:

1. Shop at Welbee's and purchase your favorite products as usual.

2. At the checkout, remember that each single-use beverage container you buy will incur an extra €0.10 charge.

3. Once you've finished using the containers, deposit them into any of the Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) installed in Malta and/or Gozo. Don't forget to collect the deposit receipt voucher from the RVM, which will have a barcode and the refund amount printed on it.

4. When you make your next purchase, present the receipt voucher to the cashier at the cash point. They will scan the barcode and deduct the refund amount from your total bill.

Accepted Single-Use Beverage Containers:

- Plastic (Polyethylene terephthalate – PET)

- Metal (steel and aluminium)

- Glass (clear and non-clear)

Included Beverages:

- Water and flavored water

- Non-carbonated soft drinks

- Carbonated soft drinks

- Ciders, beers, and other malt beverages

- Ready-to-drink coffee

- Flavored alcoholic beverages with an alcoholic content level not exceeding 5%

To receive your refund, you must deposit the containers at one of the Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) located in our stores. The RVM will provide you with a deposit receipt voucher, which you can redeem as a discount on your next purchase by presenting it at the cash point.

Please note the following:

- The €0.10 deposit will be charged per container, even if you purchase them in a pack. However, the full amount will be refunded when you return the containers.

- If you usually shop by delivery, you will need to physically return the containers and redeem the refund voucher at a shop's cash point as per the guidelines of the Beverage Container Refund Scheme (BCRS).

- Containers purchased from any outlet in Malta and/or Gozo, not just Welbee's, can be returned and accepted at any Reverse Vending Machine (RVM).

- To be eligible for a refund, the beverage containers must be returned within 24 months from the date of purchase.

- The deposit receipt voucher must be redeemed within 12 months from the date of issue, and the expiry date is printed on each voucher.

- Containers must be returned empty and in good condition, with a clearly readable barcode on the label. Squashed, broken, or containers without a clear barcode will not be accepted.

- Refillable containers, cartons, HDPE, and beverages in pouch containers are not accepted by the Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs).

The BCRS aims to increase responsibility and promote beverage container recycling among producers, importers, and retailers. By focusing on beverages, which contribute significantly to single-use waste, this scheme encourages recycling and discourages littering in public spaces.
